About pVoice Software

pVoice Software

Welcome to the pVoice Software website. This is the location where you can find the software I’ve written to make life easier and more fun for disabled children.

You might wonder why I’ve started this. The reason is simple. My eldest daughter, Krista, who is now 14 years old is disabled. To use the more medical term, she is a spastic quadriplegiac. Her disability is so severe, that at the time I started developing pVoice, there was no suitable software available for her to communicate using her computer. Since she couldn’t speak herself (although nowadays she can! yay!), she needed some software to be able to communicate with the outside world.

Please take a look around and download software as you need it.

Free software

All pVoice software is free. Free as in Free Speech, but yes, also, free as in ‘free beer’. You can download the software, try it out, if
it’s usable, you keep it, if you think it’s worthless, you delete it. No charge. In fact, if you think it almost does what you want and you have some programming experience, you can download the program sourcecode, modify it and use that too. Again, no charge.

That does not mean pVoice software doesn’t have a license agreement. The software is released under the terms of the “Artistic License”. You can find the details of the Artistic license here.

Until I started to rebuild this site and revive the pVoice programming activities, I gave away *everything* about pVoice. The source and the compiled version. I’ve changed my mind about that. pVoice’s sources will remain free, under the same license as before (Artistic). However, if you want a compiled version (after 2.2 beta 5), you can get it as shareware. The exact pricing details? I haven’t figured that out yet.

Why do I do this? I have a fulltime job. I make my money as a software developer. This software can make a difference for kids with disabilities. They can communicate. I’m not paying anyone to communicate in English, Dutch, German or whatever. Why should anyone be charged for such basic needs as communication? I would like to hear from anyone who successfully uses the software, that’s the only thing I would like in return. But again, no obligations.
